The joy of being a parent lasts just two years and the euphoria of getting married is similarly short-lived, say researchers.
People quickly adjust to marriage and children and do not experience long-term positive reactions to such major life changes, the study of happiness over 25 years by researchers at Brunel University found.
Report co-author Yannis Georgellis said: 'The positive effect of having children may be transitory. Very quickly you get back to your baseline.'
